Hestia
The guardian goddess of home and family, symbolized the protection and warmth of the house. Seat of the goddess in every home was the fireplace, where a fire had to burn in order to honor her. In Delphi, the shrine of the goddess was the common home of all Greeks from where they were taking the sacred fire. Nowadays the word “hestia” means the home and the fireplace where the family gathers together.
